JOAN K. AUSTIN, D.N.S., R.N., FAAN

 

 

Joan K. Austin is Distinguished Professor of Nursing at Indiana University School of Nursing, Indianapolis, Indiana.  She holds adjunct appointments in the Department of Psychiatry, Indiana University School of Medicine and in the Department of Psychology, Purdue University School of Science.  She is presently a member of the Professional Advisory Board of the Epilepsy Foundation, a member of the Board of Directors of the American Epilepsy Society, and a member of the Research Commission of the International Bureau for Epilepsy.  Dr. Austin is a member of the Institute of Medicine.

 

Dr. Austin has been actively engaged in behavioral research investigating mental health problems in children with epilepsy over the past two decades.  Presently, she is principal investigator on two NIH-supported research studies investigating behavior and academic achievement problems in children and adolescents with epilepsy.  In addition, she is principal investigator for the NIH-funded nursing research center that focuses on enhancing quality of life in persons with chronic illness.
